With over 21 years learning, 17 years teaching and performing Middle Eastern Dance and more than 5,000 shows under her belt, Ambyr is a highly experienced and accomplished bellydancer. After gaining her initial training and performance experience in Australia and the United States, Ambyr began working professionally in London in 1998. In 2000 she returned to Australia and settled in Melbourne, where she spent 3 years working as a full-time performer and teacher.
Since relocating to Brisbane in 2003, Ambyr has made her mark on the Brisbane belly dance scene as a successful and well-respected performer, teacher, and choreographer. In addition to performing at countless high profile corporate events, weddings, family functions, restaurants, cultural events, and multicultural festivals, Ambyr is the resident dancer at the Multi-Award Winning Ahmet’s Turkish Restaurant and Ahmet’s On Oxford; a position which she has held for the last 10 years. Beginning a new phase in 2012, Ambyr, along with fellow teacher Nerissa, established the Queensland Bellydance Academy.
Ambyr’s love of dance is reflected in her passion to continue learning and evolving as a dancer. She has studied with and been inspired by an extensive list of master teachers and performers from around the world. Furthermore, to deepen her knowledge Ambyr has travelled to Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, India, the USA, the UK, Germany, and Spain for dance study trips as well as completing a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology at the University of Queensland and Certificate III, Diploma in Dance from Northern Rivers Conservatorium.
